In the spring of 2024, my son completed the Del Ferro stuttering therapy. His biggest challenge came along this summer: a holiday job. He is currently working in a restaurant along the highway.
The initial plan was for him to carry out maintenance tasks. But after the third day, he found himself standing behind ‘the line’, which meant taking customer orders and assisting guests — in Dutch, but sometimes in English and French as well.
It was quite a challenge for him, and something he didn’t feel comfortable with at first. But within a few days, his insecurity vanished, and it has become his favorite part of the job.
I find that incredibly impressive of him. Speaking stutter-free has given my son so much confidence. Connecting with his colleagues, whom he didn’t know at all beforehand, also went really well.
Without the Del Ferro Method, his holiday would have looked completely different.
He now talks non-stop at home as well. Sometimes I even have to give him a gentle reminder to slow down a bit because of his enthusiasm.
