Experience of Bibian Mentel ✝ • 2017 with Del Ferro (Elite) Sports Training

My best presentation ever thanks to the Del Ferro Method

Bibian Mentel ✝ • 2017

Bibian Mentel was a Dutch Paralympic snowboarder and three-time gold medalist. Despite her repeated battles with cancer, she continued to practice her sport with unmatched resilience and perseverance. Bibian’s determination and achievements made her an icon in the world of sports.

I was referred to Del Ferro by my osteopath to deepen my breathing, as it turned out I was breathing quite shallowly and could utilize my lungs much more effectively. Given that I am an elite athlete and have already undergone five lung surgeries, I was very curious and realized I could benefit immensely from this.

First of all, Ingrid’s four lessons were highly informative and enjoyable, but I could already notice the benefits after just the first session: more air, and above all, much more calm in my breathing and my entire body.

The subsequent lessons focused primarily on mastering the technique, as I noticed it didn’t come automatically at first and required very conscious attention to my breathing. Finally, in our last session, we focused on applying this technique to the presentations I regularly give.

My husband has heard my presentation many times before, and he always advised me to speak more calmly, take my time, and pause occasionally—but I never really knew how. Last week, he heard me speak again for the first time and called it my best presentation ever… All because I finally dared to pause, giving the audience time to reflect on what they had just heard, which made the message land so much better.

As an athlete, of course I know how important breathing is, but I never expected this course to give me so much—both in terms of my athletic performance and my public speaking!
