By applying the Del Ferro breathing technique, athletes increase their effective lung capacity and improve their CO2 tolerance. This ensures that muscle acidification is delayed and that oxygen uptake in the blood remains constant, even during maximal physical exertion. This results in a measurable improvement in endurance.
The diaphragm is the primary respiratory muscle, yet it is not used to its full potential by many athletes. The Del Ferro Method trains this muscle to function more efficiently. A conditioned diaphragm prevents shallow chest breathing during exertion, which minimizes energy loss and enhances core stability.
Controlled diaphragmatic breathing immediately after exertion helps the body switch more quickly from the sympathetic nervous system (action) to the parasympathetic nervous system (recovery).
